Catherine Maude (Massey) Lewellen

Catherine Maude (Massey) Lewellen, age 68 of Denton, Texas, entered God's care on September 4, 2013 in Frisco, Texas, after an eighteen month battle with brain cancer. She was born on November 1, 1944, in Velasco, Texas to the late John Welborn and Helen Ernestine (Piper) Massey, and was raised in Troup, Texas. Catherine (Cathy) earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1981 and a Master of Arts in English as a Second Language (ESL) in 1999, both from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. She worked in Education teaching ESL to adults in San Antonio, Texas, at the Language Institute with the Department of Defense, and took a memorable assignment to Cairo, Egypt. Cathy also traveled to Beijing, China, where she taught accent reduction. Her specialty was in pronunciation.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandy Hughes (Brian) of Denton, Texas and Susan Ragsdale (Dan) of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren, Heather Hughes of Denton, Texas, and Andrew, Brennan and Luke Ragsdale all of Frisco, Texas; sisters, Marilyn Wilkinson of Dripping Springs, Texas, Nancy Massey of Kilgore, Texas, Johnna Massey of Leander, Texas, Beverly Massey of Whitehouse, Texas, and Rose Massey-Chastain of Bullard, Texas; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was a fun and involved grandmother (Granny Cat), a loving mother, and a considerate friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held at her home church, Gribble Springs Baptist Church, in Sanger, Texas, on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at 2pm, with a visitation 1 hour prior to service. Pastor Wade Brand will officiate.
