IN LOVING MEMORY

Carmen Bernice/Fag Durham

May 11 1919 - Feb 24 2011

The choirs of heaven sang more joyfully today as their voices were joined by their much loved friend Carmen Fagg Durham.

Carmen Bernice Fagg Durham was born was born May 11, 1919 in Blue Ridge, TX to Esther Whited Fagg and Jim Fagg.  Carmen married James Durham on August 17, 1951 in Gainesville, TX.  They were blessed with two children Jan and Jim.

The third of five children, Carmen was the only daughter of a depression era family who valued education and community service.  During one of the ost economically challenging times of our nation, all five children of this remarkable family graduated college, and completed lengthy careers in the field of education.  Carmen completed her professional career by teaching home economics in the Blue Ridge ISD for 44 years.  During her tenure at BRISD she sponsored the high school drill team and cheerleaders, oversaw a successful Future Homemakers of America Chapter which fostered several state and national level organization officers.  Some of her fondest memories were of hosting the annual Spring Style Show for BRISD and traveling with FHA members to area meetings, state, and national conventions.  Carmen enjoyed gardening, cooking, working in her church and in her community.

Mrs. Durham’s biggest joy in life was her family.  As she entered her retirement years she was blessed and overjoyed by the arrival of her two granddaughters Jenna and Taylor Durham.  She loved spending time with them, participating in their upbringing, attending their school events and recanting stories of their wonder, achievements, intelligence, beauty and grace to anyone who would give her the opportunity.  Being a grandmother was her passion.

Carmen is survived by her husband, James, her children Jan Durham Snow and husband Danny of Savoy, TX; son Jim Casey Durham and wife Stacie of Blue Ridge, TX; and, granddaughters Jenna and Taylor Durham.
