Mrs. Bonnie Lee Barnett Speight passed peacefully from this earth on March 28, 2005 at the age of 91. Born November 8, 1913, in Scatterbranch, Texas to Jasper Peyton Barnett and Ellie Becky Orchard Barnett. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lilburn Preston Speight, Sr., her parents, two stepsons and all of her siblings. Bonnie is survived by her son, Charles of Sperry, OK; her daughter, Patti Hicks of Honey Grove, TX; four grandsons, Rick Speight, Mark Speight, Chris Wiser, and Steven Wiser; three granddaughters, Rebecca Faiola, Celeste Waldroop, Tammy Wiser, and Melissa Hicks; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Bonnie graduated from Commerce High School in 1931. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from East Texas State Teacher’s College in Commerce, TX in 1936 with a major in Spanish and a minor in English. She held a Masters of Education and a Masters of Library Science from East Texas State University. Bonnie taught school for 37 years, 31 of those years for Allen Independent School District. She retired from teaching in 1982. The lives she touched over the span of her career are too numerous to imagine. She was an inspiration to all those with whom she was acquainted her entire life. She will be greatly missed. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, Rev. Jerry Speight officiating. Interment will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park, Greenville, TX. Visitation will be from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Allen Public Library.
