IN LOVING MEMORY

Bobbie Ellon Roberts

Apr 29 1942 - May 01 2011

Bobbie Ellon Roberts, age 69, of Richardson, Texas, passed away Sunday, May1, 2011, following a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer. Born April 29, 1942, in Decherd, Tennessee, she was married to Arthur R. (Art) Roberts on December 17,1966. Bobbie moved to Dallas in 1966, and started work the next day at Collins Radio, on Arapaho Road, where she met Art, who had worked there since 1962. Their courtship was short, but the decision certain. They were married 44 years, until Bobbie’s death. In May, 1972, their daughter Karen was born, and in September, they moved to the Washington, D. C. area. When Karen started grade school, Bobbie began a course of study toward a nursing degree, which she received in 1982 from the University of Northern Virginia, graduating cum laude. She worked with an internist for four years. The family moved back to Richardson in 1986. Beginning in 1988, the family hosted foreign exchange students, spanning 9 years and 8 students. Bobbie was counselor for AFS for four years, and co-director for three. In 1996, Bobbie began work as a volunteer for CASA of Collin County, and in 2000, began work as a casework supervisor for that Agency, which continued until her cancer diagnosis in 2005. She touched many lives, both of foreign exchange students and abused and neglected children through her work at CASA. The family traveled widely both through Art’s work and to visit their exchange students and their families. Bobbie is survived by her husband, Arthur R. Roberts, her daughter Karen Roberts, her mother, Louise Garner, of Decherd, TN, her sister, Patricia Hudson and her husband John Hudson, and Patricia and John’s three sons and their families. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, May 3, from 5 pm to 8 pm at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, May 7 in Winchester, Tennessee, at the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. The family expresses gratitude to caretaker Gail Turner, and to Doctor Alan Munoz and his wonderful staff. Those who wish are invited to contribute to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation in Bobbie’s name, at www.ocrf.org. There will be a celebration of Bobbie’s life on Saturday, May 14, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow, at 4 pm.
