Billy (Bo) Pettit

Billy Lynn (Bo) Pettit was born February 19, 1932 in Celina, Texas to Nathan Arthur Pettit and Floy Irene Jacobs Pettit. He died Monday, October 11, 2010 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas at the age of 78. He married Geralene (Jerry) Strickland Deeds on December 11, 1954 at Denton, Texas. Bo and his wife Jerry owned and operated Pettit’s Grocery Store in Whitewright for 50 years. He was a member of the Baptist faith. He served his nation in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bo was active in his community. He was a member of the Rotary Club, American Legion, VFW, Volunteer Fire Department and the Whitewright Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by daughter, Jeannie Santogrossi and husband Richard of Whitewright; son, Larry Deeds and wife Linda of Whitewright; son, Terry Pettit and wife Nancy of Whitewright; 7 grandchildren, Todd, Jeffrey, Eddie, Katie, Nathan, Chaley and Will; 3 great-grandchildren; and nephew Mike Bell of Denton. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Jerry Pettit; and his parents. The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, Administrators and Staff at Denison Nursing and Rehab, Texoma Medical Center in Denison and the Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano. Memorials may be made to the Whitewright Public Library or to the Whitewright SNAP Center. The family would especially like to thank all of the people who came to the store and made his life so full. Funeral Services will be held 4:00 PM, Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Kentuckytown Baptist Church, Whitewright, Texas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Rodney Stanford, Rev. Phillip Smith and Rev. Greg Allen. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Whitewright, Texas. Pallbearers will be Bill Coley, Bob Purdom, Ralph Hughes, Harry “Butch” Morgan, Jackie Howell, and Roy Black. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry McKinney and Billy Hamilton. There will be no family night, but family and friends are invited to the funeral home to pay their respects and to sign the register book.
