Billie Hopkins Whitt passed away December 7, 2009, in Bonham, Texas. Bill was born September 15, 1929, in Amanote, Virginia, to Joe Sparks and Gladys (Dye) Whitt. He was raised in the back woods of rural Virginia and literally walked uphill to school both ways. Bill’s love of golf was only surpassed by his love for his family, his faith, and his country. He married Jo Cloud on May 28, 1954, in Clovis, New Mexico. Bill retired from the United States Air Force after twenty years. He served in Vietnam, the South Pacific, and the U.K. Bill finally settled in Lubbock, Texas to raise his family. He will be greatly missed by his wife of fifty-five years, Jo, of McKinney, Texas; daughters, Karen Whitt and her partner Molly Zeigler of Chicago, Illinois and Kelly and son-in-law, Rob Friedman; grandsons, Matt and Will, both of Dallas, Texas; and numerous other loving family and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and son, Michael. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 11, 2009, at Rhea’s Mill Baptist Church. The family will receive friends during a visitation to be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Interment will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 12, 2009, at Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made Rhea’s Mill Baptist Church Building Fund, 5733 N.
