IN LOVING MEMORY

Betty Buchanan

Sep 29 1939 - Oct 20 2016

Betty Marie (Gentry) Buchanan, age 77 of Blue Ridge, TX, died peacefully at home in her sleep on October 20, 2016 as her hard fight with colon cancer came to an end.  Betty was born in Slabtown, TX on September 29, 1939 and was the eldest of five children.  Her parents Arnold and Cora Francis Gentry raised her and her three brothers RV, Don, and Eddie in Garland, TX.

Betty’s life forever changed at the age of 16 when she accepted Christ as her savior and soon after met the love of her life, Mr. Robert “Ray” Buchanan.  She and Ray were happily married on February 8, 1957 and nine months later welcomed their firstborn son, Robert Ray Buchanan, Jr.  In the following years, they were blessed with two more sons, Michael Ray and Timothy Ray.

Betty was the rockstar of the home—cooking delicious meals for all her boys, keeping the inside and outside of the home clean and beautiful, supporting her husband in the family masonry business and most important to her, being a constant source of love and fun for her boys.  As Betty and Ray raised their boys to work hard in the family business, they also had many fun times camping, fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles and horses and various other outdoor adventures.

In December 1984, Betty’s life changed again for the better as she and Ray welcomed their first of thirteen grandchildren.  Better was no longer primarily known as “Betty Marie” or “MamaB” as she had affectionately been called but her new role and title of “GRANNY” was clearly one of her life’s greatest callings.  Granny exceeded beyond measure in her calling.  She became a STAR in the lives of her 10 granddaughters and 3 grandsons, and never disappointed with her constant energy, excitement and unconditionally loving, joyful, positive, life-of-the-party spirit.  From their birth to her death she made countless memories with her loved ones and in recent years became known as the family’s SUNSHINE.

Granny was a faithful, strong partner to her husband Ray of 56 years, a nurturing, loving advocate for her three sons, and a superhero to all of her grandchildren.  She loved the great outdoors and especially loved all her animals including dogs, cats, goats, geese, chickens, donkeys, and horses.  She loved gardening her flowers and looking out the window to enjoy them.  She was ALWAYS up for an adventure, especially with her loved ones.  The continued growth of her family including 8 great-grandchildren brought her much joy, as well as spending lots of time with her brother RV in recent years.

Granny lived her life to the fullest, made the most of every moment and brought laughter and sunshine everywhere she went until the day the Lord called her home.  She is survived by her three sons, Robert Ray Jr. and Tonya Buchanan of Whitewright, Mike and Teresa Buchanan of Rowlett, and Tim and Mary Buchanan of Blue Ridge, 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers and countless adoring loved ones.  Betty is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister Peggy Joyce.

Her family is thankful for every God given moment and memory with her.   She was and will always be our SUNSHINE.
