Mr. Ben A. Garrison, age 77, of McKinney, Texas, formerly of Harrison, Arkansas, passed away June 22 peacefully at home from the caring arms of his family to the loving arms of the Lord. Ben was born May 20, 1931, in Harrison, Arkansas, to Ben F. and Pauline (Terry) Garrison. Ben and his wife Elisabeth shared 15 joyous years together. Ben was co-founder of American Freightways that was subsequently purchased by FedEx. He held various leadership positions within his church community and business. He was well-known for his dedication and accomplishments to the trucking industry. He was also a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in McKinney. Ben is survived by his beloved and devoted wife Elisabeth Garrison of McKinney; daughters, Sheryl Ann Garrison Nee of Valley Center, California and Elizabeth Garrison Barber and husband, Reed of Heathrow, Florida; grandchildren, Gabriella, Delaney and Lindsey Barber. He is also survived by Elisabeth’s children, Brian and Mark Andersen and Denise Carroll and children, Brooke and Colby; former step children, Debbie Hudson, Pat and Mike Brown; and numerous other loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ben Frank Garrison; and brother, Sheridan Garrison. The family would like to give special thanks to his devoted caregivers, Gloria, Pat, Tonya, Kari and Trish. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 29, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in McKinney with the Reverend David K. Krause officiating. A graveside memorial will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Harrison, Arkansas at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc.
