IN LOVING MEMORY

Barbara Johnette Moore

Jan 10 1938 - Sep 21 2012

Barbara Johnette Moore was born to John and Tommie J. Burkham in Marshall, Texas, on January 10, 1938. She attended Marshall High School, graduating in 1956. She put her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and remained steadfast in her trust in Christ until her passing to Him on September 21, 2012, in Plano, Texas.

She was surrounded by her loving family as she passed peacefully on September 21, 2012, at Medical Center Plano. She battled a blood infection for 36 hours that consumed her remaining physical resources. She had won many battles like this in the past, but the Lord ordained that this would be her last. She is in His Presence now, with no more pain, no more sorrow. In His presence is fullness of joy.

She married Thomas T. Moore on September 4, 1959. This marriage was orchestrated by God to bring two persons together from two different locations on two different occasions with that timing and providence which only a sovereign God can accomplish. She first met the man she would marry, Tommy (Buddy) Moore, as a high school sophomore on a church trip to Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly in North Carolina. Later, they met again in their high school senior years and were married three years later.

God blessed the marriage of Johnette and Buddy with three wonderful children. Melanie Kaye was born in Beaumont, Texas. Barbara Michele and John Thomas were both born in Wilmington, Delaware.

God blessed the marriage of Johnette and Buddy with three wonderful spouses for their children. Melanie was married to Jon Allan Rutter in Austin, Texas. Michele was married to Charles Melvin Muenster, Jr in Clear Lake, Texas. John was married to Beverly Annette in Kilgore, Texas.

God blessed the marriage of Johnette and Buddy with three wonderful families and seven wonderful grandchildren. Melanie and Allan Rutter were blessed with Sarah Michele and Elizabeth Francis in Austin, Texas. Michele and Charlie Muenster were blessed with Conner Thomas and Carson Charles in Houston, Texas. Beverly and John Moore were blessed with Marshall Thomas, Collin Daniel, and Nathan Scott in Houston, Texas.

Barbara Johnette Moore is blessed to have all her children and grandchildren with her to celebrate her passing to the Lord.

Barbara Johnette Moore is blessed to have two brothers who shared family life with her and who celebrate her passing to the Lord; David Rodney Burkham and his wife Pat with their daughter, Cindy Burkham, and her daughter, Lexi Jo, and Jon Randy Burkham and his wife Karen, and their children Megan and David.

Barbara Johnette Moore is blessed to have her close cousin Vira Lee Sistrunk and other cousins to celebrate her passing to the Lord.

Barbara Johnette Moore was preceded in death by her parents, John and Tommie J. Burkham, and numerous other aunts and uncles.

Four words can be used to describe Barbara Johnette Moore. Survivor ….. Giver ….. Gracious ….. Believer in Jesus Christ.

Barbara Johnette Moore was a survivor.  She survived three episodes of breast cancer, including stage IV metastasis. She survived lymphoma twice, Hodgins and non-Hodgins, including intensive chemotherapy and stem cell transplant. She survived open heart surgery to remove blood clots in her heart. She survived two broken legs and three ankle/foot fractures. She survived numerous infections, both at home and in the hospital. She survived congestive heart failure. She survived kidney failure and five months of dialysis. She survived ten months of treatment for MDS, myelodysplastic syndromes. She was not able to survive a blood infection. Her MDS-weakened immune system could not overcome the blood infection.

Barbara Johnette Moore was a Giver.  Her youngest grandson probably summed it up best. When asked what he remembered most about his grandmother, Nannie, he said, “ She always gave us something.” When children and grandchildren came to town, she always wanted to give them something, clothes, shoes, baseball gloves, hair cuts, special meals and treats, all dispensed with copious amounts of love.During her five months of dialysis, when she heard or saw a need at the dialysis center, she reached out to meet it, either with the gift of a magazine, sugarless mints, cash for a special night out for a couple who had not gone out to dinner in a long time, or giving of medical equipment not currently in use.

Barbara Johnette Moore was Gracious.  In the hospital hallway, between operating and recovery room, following modified radical mastectomy surgery, she heard the voice of a friend. Through her anesthesia fog, she lifted her arm and reached out to her friend and graciously thanked her for coming. In her early years, she was reluctant to reach out to strangers; not so in later years. At the cancer center, the renal clinic, or doctor office waiting rooms, she always looked for someone to encourage. She always complimented the other person in some special way, “ Like your shoes, Like your purse, Like your outfit …”. She always seemed to pick just the right item to brighten the other person the most. Those gracious compliments always seemed to open doors to warm personal conversations, regardless of the location.

Barbara Johnette Moore was a Believer in Jesus Christ.  As a young child she heard the gospel and placed her trust in Jesus Christ. As she passed through the trials of life, she continued to trust in Christ more and more to meet all her needs, physical and spiritual. She filled page after page in small notebooks with hand written prayers, scripture verses, and sermon notes. In one she wrote, “God, I cast all of my burdens on you. I trust you to take care of them as you have promised in your Word. I have been saved by Grace through faith in the finished work of Jesus!” These small notebooks remain her legacy of daily trust in Christ.
