Aubrey Dwayne "Rusty" Smith

Aubrey Dwayne “Rusty” Smith of Anna was born December 21, 1944 in Gorman, Texas and passed from this life on November 19, 2009. Rusty served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Vietnam and Thailand. After leaving the Army, he worked for more than thirty years with the San Angelo, Texas police department where his passion was helping children and youth as well as anyone else in need. One of Rusty’s greatest accomplishments was implementing the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program in the state of Texas. He also enjoyed meeting all the people of San Angelo who attended concerts and shows at the city coliseum. Rusty married the love of his life, Amalie, on December 30, 1966 in San Angelo. He was a very active and dedicated member of the Anna United Methodist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodges in Van Alstyne and Carlsbad, Texas. Rusty is survived by his wife, Amalie Smith of Anna; mother, Vickie Smith of San Angelo; sons and daughters-in-law, Aubrey Dwayne Smith, Jr. and Debra Smith of Prosper and Kenneth Dale Smith and Breanna Smith of Chandler; brother, Bobby Joe Smith of San Angelo; and grandchildren, Dalton Dwayne Smith and Daylin Elizabeth Smith, both of Prosper. Rusty was preceded in death by his father, Aubrey Smith. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at Anna United Methodist Church in Anna, Texas with Chuck Jestis officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to the “West Texas Boy’s Ranch”, 10233 Boy’s Ranch Road, San Angelo, Texas, 76904.
