Anna Carylene McClendon

Mrs. Anna Carylene Geren McClendon of Lavon, Texas passed away October 4, 2010 in Farmersville. She was born Sept. 19, 1911 in Lavon, Texas the daughter of Frank and Zona Tollett Geren.  She married Carter McClendon June 14, 1935 in Sherman, Texas. She is survived by her son Ronnie McClendon,Lavon, Texas Grandson, Dr. Cole McClendon and wife Terry of Wylie, two great grandsons Colby and Carter McClendon both of Wylie, Texas.  She was preceeded in death by her husband Carter McClendon, Sister Irene Watkins, Brother Malcolm Geren, daughter in law Mary Nell McClendon and many friends and former students.

Ms. Carylene, every studens favorite teacher, began her teaching career in 1932, teaching 1st grade at Lavon, Texas.  She taught 1st grade for 17 yeard and 4th grade for 29 years.  She served as elementary principle and 4th grade teacher at Lavon from 1960 until 1974.  She was selected as and "Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America" In 1974 in recognition of her contributions to education and service to the community. Ms Carylene was employed by Community ISD for a total of 46 years and was honored by the district by dedicating one of their schools the Carylene McClendon Elementary School.

Ms Carylene was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Lavon. She served as the church organist, Sunday School teacher, and Vacation Bible School teacher for numerous years.  After retiring in 1975, Ms Carylene loved traveling, working in her yard and quilting with her close friends.
