Anita Gafner Eddy

(Roshia) Anita Gafner Eddy, 80, went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at her home in McKinney, Texas, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 6, 1933 in Brownwood, Texas to Frederick Gafner and Roshia Hardcastle Gafner. 

Anita’s family lived in Brownwood and San Angelo, Texas before moving to Freeport, Texas in 1943. Anita graduated from Freeport/ Brazosport High School in 1951. After high school, she attended Baylor University.   

After returning home, Anita met a young chemist, Raymond Eddy, who had just moved to Freeport to work for Dow Chemical Company. Anita married Raymond on February 26, 1955 at First Baptist Church in Freeport. They were happily married for more than 58 years. Anita was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church in Freeport until she and Raymond moved to McKinney in 2001, where they joined First Baptist Church, McKinney, Texas. Anita was a beautiful example of God’s love to everyone. She was a loving and selfless wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  A faithful prayer warrior and Bible teacher, Anita loved mentoring other women and encouraging them in their faith. In addition to having a lovely soprano voice, Anita played the piano and organ at First Baptist Church, Freeport, for many years. She enjoyed many kinds of needlework, arts and crafts projects, and folk painting.  

Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Roshia Gafner, and her sister Mary Louise Latham.

Anita is survived by her husband, Raymond of McKinney, Texas; her son and daughter-in- law, Douglas and Kathy Eddy of McKinney; her son, Eric Eddy, of Chicago; her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Jeff Lanningham, of Rockport, Texas; her grandchildren, Jennifer Eddy, Rebecca and Justin Thomas, Brian Eddy, Meredith Lanningham, and Drew Lanningham; her sister’s daughter, Amanda Thompson, of Los Angeles; and many other beloved nephews, nieces, and extended family members.

Visitation will be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow, 2525 Central Expy, Allen, TX at 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19. A Celebration Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church, 1615 W. Louisiana St., McKinney,Texas at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20.  Burial will follow at Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney. It is Anita's desire that everyone attending the service wear bright colors as we celebrate her life.
