Alvin Clayton Welborn

Alvin Clayton Welborn, age 79, of Mount Pleasant, Texas, passed away August 23, 2014, in Mount Pleasant.  Clayton was born September 3, 1934, in Princeton, Texas, to William Jefferson (Jeff) and Vera Altha (Henegar) Welborn.  Clayton was a member of the Northridge Church of Christ in Mount Pleasant, Texas where he served as an elder for several years.  Prior to that, he served as an elder at the Princeton, Texas Church of Christ.  He joined the Lions Club in 1978 where he served as President in the Princeton and Mount Pleasant chapters. 

In addition, he was past member of the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce and Optimist Club.  He was a founding member of the Princeton Athletic Booster Club in 1968, where he took an active role in school athletics including announcing high school football.  Clayton also spent many seasons umpiring and coaching little league sports.  He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. In 1953, Clayton went to work for State Farm Insurance in Dallas, Texas at the regional office.  In 1985, he relocated to Mount Pleasant, Texas as an agent for State Farm.  He retired after 51 years of service with State Farm in 2004.

Clayton is survived by his wife of sixty years, Freida Welborn; children, Randy and Carrie Welborn of Boise, Idaho, Rhonda and Ray Hawkins of Marietta, Georgia, Bradley and Danielle Welborn of Livingston, Texas, Tammie and Doug Lewis of Rosenberg, Texas, Jon and Carol Welborn of Pittsburg, Texas, and Jeff and Monica Welborn of Mount Pleasant, Texas; sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; brother, Doyle Welborn and wife, Mary Lou of Austin, Texas; sister-in-law, Betty Welborn of Princeton, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William Ethel (Bill) Welborn, Harmon Welborn, and Archie Welborn.

The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening, August 27, 2014 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Northridge Church of Christ in Mount Pleasant, Texas.  The family will also receive friends during a visitation at 9:00 a.m., prior to service. Interment will take place at 3:00 p.m., Thursday at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.
