Mr. Alvin Edwin Green, age 89, of McKinney, Texas passed away January 10, 2009, at Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham, Texas. He was born on April 30, 1919, in Burleson County, Texas to Nathan and Emma (Leach) Green. and He married Grace Marie Woodall in 1940. Mr. Green was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He served as an M.P. in Saipan. He worked for the General Service Administration in Sherman, Texas at the Federal building. He was a member of the Providence Baptist Church in Caldwell, Texas. Mr. Green is survived by his daughter, Annette Powell and husband, John, Sr. of McKinney; son-in-law, Toby Clay of Princeton, Texas; grandchildren, John Powell, Jr. of McKinney, Christie Powell Chloupek and husband Andrew of Lucas, Texas, Lisa Clay McCurdy and husband David of Princeton and Benny Clay of Dallas; nephew, Edward Ayers of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and his friends at the Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and daughter, Jeanie Clay. The family will receive friends during a visitation on January 15, 2009, Thursday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Providence Cemetery in Caldwell, Texas with Rev. Oren McManus officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Providence Cemetery Association, 8372 FM 166, Caldwell, Texas 77836-4321.
