Alta Jones Gracy

Alta (Jones) Gracy of Kaufman, Texas passed away on October 18, 2016 at the age of 81.  She was born on November 29, 1934 to Walter and Allie (Pierson) Jones in Anna, Texas, where her family raised cotton, corn and cattle.  Alta grew up in Anna with four brothers and two sisters, and then moved to Dallas and Farmers Branch.  She and her husband retired to Kaufman where she lived until her death.  She was first and foremost a wife and homemaker, who loved her family and raising her children.  She worked several part time home sales jobs as her children grew.  After her children were grown, she studied for her real estate license and became a realtor.  She and her family attended the Church of Christ in Farmers Branch.

Alta is survived by son, Derek Gracy and his wife, Karen of Kaufman; daughter, Rebecca Gracy of Garland; grandchildren, Elizabeth Blake and her husband Will; Zane Moody and Trisha Gracy; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Hendricks, and Calvin Blake.

Alta is also survived by youngest brother, Bob Jones of McKinney; and numerous other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by parents, Allie and Walter Jones; husband, Hendricks (H.R.) Gracy; and daughter, Susan Delores Casey; sisters, Helen Hammer and Peggy Reno; brothers, J.W. Jones, Norman Jones, and Tom (Clell) Jones.

The family would like to thank all who visited Alta at the hospital and nursing home, with special thanks to friends Lou Ann Lane and Jerri Windle who sat with Alta and whose care provided comfort for Alta and respite for the family in her last days.

The funeral service will be held in the Chapel at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas, on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Saturday evening, October 22, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests donations to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital or The American Diabetes Association.
