IN LOVING MEMORY

Alfred "Al" Thom

Nov 12 1932 - Aug 10 2011

Alfred A. Thom Jr. burst into this world in Wichita Falls, Texas on November 12, 1932 to parents Alfred Sr. and Irene. He lived an enviable childhood as a beloved son and nephew in a large, loving family. Alfred worked in the oilfields and attended the University of Texas before embarking on a long and successful career with Sears Roebuck and Company. He and his wife Barbara traveled extensively and raised their children to appreciate all the beauty and wonders of this world. Alfred had an insatiable curiosity which encompassed all matters he loved, his country and especially Texas. His parents took him to the Texas Centennial Exposition at Fair Park in 1936 and he returned each and every year thereafter to attend the Fair and see “what’s new”. Alfred’s contributions to the community were many, including dedicated membership to the Rotary Club, volunteering for the Heard Museum, and mentoring young people. He was active in the Baptist Church, and a member of First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls. Some of the things he will be remembered for are his love of fun, his unfailing positive attitude, his ability to join people together with stories and jokes, his kind heart and his sense of humor. Alfred was predeceased by his parents, all his revered aunts and uncles and his beloved wife of 46 years, Barbara. He is survived by wife Carolyn, children David, Jeff and Laurel and their families, brother Billy, mother-in-law Opal Andrews and many dear friends. Those who knew him will never forget him. Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon, Saturday, August 13, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Allen, Texas. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the church. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m., at the Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
