Mr. Larry C. Bates, age 74, of Howe, Texas, passed away July 2, 2010, in Sherman, Texas. He was born December 24, 1935, in Athens, Ohio, to John D. and Nadine Bates. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. On May 22, 1965, Larry married Pat Philips at the First United Methodist Church in McKinney, Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Howe, Texas.
Larry is survived by his wife of 45 years, Pat; son, Brad Bates of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Emily and Kendall Bates both of Melissa, Texas; sister, Bess Lindsey of Longview, Texas; and numerous other loving relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Billy C. Bates.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 5, 2010, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Rev. Tom Medley officiating. The family will receive friends for a visitation following the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 1:45 p.m., Thursday, July 8, 2010, at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery.

Dear Pat and family,My heart is broke . Larry was so much fun to talk to and I will miss him so much.He loved his family and loved to talk about his son and his granchildren .I feel like I knew you all.I will always cherish my Jesus sign he gave me .It has a special place on my wall.

Larry was just a regular guy, and a very nice man. He liked simple things and enjoyed his life. He was very proud of his wife and son. Anyone who knew Larry, liked him. I hope these things can be said of me some day. God bless his family during these difficult days.- Lawrence E. Porter
