Funeral Services for Mr. Donald Joe Blackburn, 75 year old Whitewright resident, are scheduled for 1 P.M. Monday February 11, 2013 at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ in Leonard. Leonard Freeman, Duane Ray and Larry Flenniken will officiate. Burial will be in the Leonard Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday February 10, 2013 at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ in Leonard.

Mr. Blackburn was born December 21, 1937 at Sherman. His parents were Boyd Edward and Virgie Perkins Blackburn. He married Lois Mae Minchey February 14, 1958 at Leonard. He worked as a Journeyman Electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ and he served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. He passed away at his residence in Whitewright Friday February 8, 2013.

He is survived by his spouse: Lois Mae Sims of Whitewright; his daughter and son-in-law: Carla & Dale Wright of Whitewright; his sons and daughters-in-law: Douglas & Cindy Blackburn of Whitewright and Darrell & Wendy Blackburn of Leonard; his daughters: Pam Blackburn of Mesquite and Christi Williams of Seymour; his sisters: Wanda Wright of Savoy and Janice Blackburn of Mulberry; his brother: Jimmy Blackburn of Randolph; his 13 grandchildren and his 10 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Jerry Edward Blackburn; a sister: Teri Ann Lamb and a daughter: Melody Dawn Blackburn.

The family would like to give special thanks to American Hospice and to Michelle Lamb and Taneshia Harris for their wonderful love and care during the last years of Mr. Blackburn’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to any benevolent program that helps the poor.
